Anyone who knows me knows that I’m a sucker for seeds. Lots and lots o’ seeds. And one of my favorite suppliers of seeds is a small heirloom house called Baker Creek, headed by Jere Gettle and his wife, Emilee. I tried Baker Creek’s “Florida Market” eggplant for the first time last year and was seriously amazed at how well they did! The plants got to be even taller than I am (I’m 5’8″!), produced a lot of fruit, and hardly had any issues with bugs/disease. That’s the only eggplant I’ll be growing from now on.

This year I am trying my hand at melons. I am particularly intrigued by the little french melons, since everyone seems to say they have such wonderful perfume and flavor. I would love to try “Emerald Gem.” In the review, someone said it was “the best thing I’ve ever eaten.” That’s usually enough for me to put something in the ground! <3

I have never used Baker Creek seeds before but they sound amazing! This is my first year growing anything from seed and I have never had so much fun watching every day to see what new little “buddy” has decided to poke though the soil and start a new life. Now that I know how much fun this can be I am going to expand and try some other veggies and even some flowers. Thanks for the great blog!

I recently received one of their catalogs in the mail and I was very taken with the watermelon selection they offer. The Golden Midget Watermelon looked especially intriguing.
