Anyone who knows me knows that I’m a sucker for seeds. Lots and lots o’ seeds. And one of my favorite suppliers of seeds is a small heirloom house called Baker Creek, headed by Jere Gettle and his wife, Emilee. They’ve been a big supporter of Garden Betty since the beginning and have sent me countless seeds to try in my garden every season.
Their homegrown operation has a feel-good family vibe to it, and since we’re all family here, I want to share this awesome and generous giveaway from Baker Creek with you!
You’ve probably seen Baker Creek mentioned here and there on my blog — I grow plenty of their offerings, from the traditional to the exotic. But mostly the exotic. I love the selection of seeds at Baker Creek, which comes from over 70 different countries. Thumbing through their beautiful catalog of 1,400 seeds is both delight and torture at the same time — delight because I want to grow everything I can get my hands on, and torture because my garden simply isn’t big enough.
Baker Creek specializes in non-hybrid, non-GMO, non-treated, and non-patented seeds. This is about as pure as you can get. Their seeds come from small farmers and seed growers, and not from Monsanto-owned Seminis, which supplies many of the big-box stores. When you buy from Baker Creek, you’re not only supporting a family business, but also taking a stand against GMOs.
In my experience these last few seasons with Baker Creek seeds, I’ve had close to 100 percent germination and a garden full of healthy, productive plants. Since they’re open-pollinated, I’m also able to save many of my own seeds from the plants I’ve grown. My personal seed vault contains over 250 packets filled with thousands of seeds!
Want your own seed vault? How about one that comes in a nifty, sturdy bucket, brimming with over 25 different vegetables — 60 varieties in all — chosen for your specific climate?
For one lucky winner, Baker Creek will be giving away their Large Seed Collection (retail value $99), tailored for northern or southern climates. The assortment includes several types of vegetables, flowers, herbs, cover crops, and fruits and berries, and will keep for up to 10 years if stored properly. That’s 60 heirloom seed packets to start your spring off right! Incredible, yes?!

I could not find a list of what is in the collection but I am all about peas this year! I love peas and would like to have a bumper crop. Thanks for the chance to win.
My first year w/ a Baker Creek catalog. So many great choices. Our small garden didn’t do well last year with box store seeds. I can hardly wait to see what happens this year. I don’t have a favorite but want to try the Catskill Brussel Sprouts.
Looking forward to growing the Great white tomato and the purple cayenne pepper. Gonna be a colorful garden this year for sure. Thanks Baker Creek!!!!
I had great success last year with the japanese black trifle tomato and the orange purple smudge. Those were so successful that I bought all of my seeds from Baker Creek this year. Along with a bunch of traditional varieties I’m trying the Carbon tomato, Dragon Tongue beans, and an old-school beet variety. this year.
Trying Asian winged beans this year they look so cool!
excited to try our own Hopi tobacco!
What an awesome give away! I’ve got some seeds for Dragon’s Egg Cucumbers from Baker’s Creek. I can’t wait to see how they grow and taste.
My nine year old daughter and I have decided to plant a garden this spring in the hopes of cutting our grocery bill and a start to eating food grown without chemicals. Baker Creek has such an amazing variety of seeds for the north where we live but if we had to pick one it has to be squash – the Galeux D Eysines – that we think would be a beautiful addition to our little garden. What a great contest!!!! Thanks for making it possible!!!
I just love looking at the catalog, much less the seeds! There are several tomato varieties I want to try, but mostly I want to try the bull’s blood beets. Tired them from whole foods and they did not taste like Dirt, the way beets usually taste!
We’ve been using Baker Creek seeds since we first put in the summer camp organic garden at Hickory Hill in Georgia. We love the lemon squash, but hands down our favorite are Cherokee Purple Tomatoes. They are amazing and do so well in our hot Southern climate. No lie, I was still pulling tomatoes off the plant in December! Plus (the best bonus) we got middle school aged kids to eat them and ask for more.
I want to try so many different varieties I don’t know where to start!!! Dianna
Stripped Roman tomato…..haven’t had a real tomato since I was a kid!
I LOVE gardening in my little suburban garden. We doubled the size of our garden this year so- I need some southern seeds from Baker Creek. Their catalog is gorgeous!
This is our first year to purchase Baker Creek seeds, although we have dreamed over the catalog for years! The quality of seeds, especially the Pink Brandywine tomato, and rate of germination is remarkable compared to box store packets; the customer service is very personable and so helpful. We can’t wait to get our strong/healthy transplants in the ground and enjoy the sure-to-be quality produce our garden will happily provide because of your superb quality of seeds!
I don’t have a favorite as I am new to gardening. I have come to realize how the seeds I planted last year are from hybrids and not where I want to go in life. I want to build a sustainable life for my family and I now realize heritage seeds are what I need. I know nothing about saving seeds but I’m willing to learn. It is all a new learning experience but I am gladly jumping in with both feet. I would love to win and I hope I do. Thank you for this opportunity to win some heirloom seeds.
This is my second year growing heirloom fruits and veggies, but only the first year that I’ve started my own seeds from Baker Creek. I literally had to do a spread sheet to keep track of all of my seeds, because I just LOVE trying new heirloom varieties and their catalog is so darn beautiful – I know I ordered way too many and I guess it’s a good thing I super-expanded my garden this year! I’ve started some of my seedlings inside, already, and I’m just so happy to see them emerging from my handmade vermicompost potting soil 🙂 SO exciting. Now if I could just get my engineer husband to help me figure out how to rig up a rain barrel… 😉

They introduced me to the Missouri Pink Love Apple, which has been one of my very favorite tomatoes now for about 10 years. In addition to being an excellent seed house, they seem to be an incredibly savvy seed house. The printed catalog is beautiful and smartly put together to entice. I made my first order this year before I saw it–and my second after.
Black from Tula
I would love to try the coffee plant. How neat would it be to grow your own coffee?
Early last year I purchased a number of Baker Creek seeds for the first time before finding out we were being transferred to another state in JULY, half way through the growing season. I was so disappointed that I couldn’t garden last year and was worried about whether they would germinate this year. Now, I’m already looking at sprouts of snowberry tomato, baby blue hubbard pumpkins, and lungo bianco zucchini. Fantastic seeds.
My mom planted Rozelle last year they were not only a pretty plant but oh the tea….I have tried to plant love lies bleeding 3 years and have not had any luck any suggestions trying the tiger melon this year!!!

I love so many seeds, and especially enjoy unusual varieties. Last year we really enjoyed the Tigger melon for the strong fragrance and we always love the lemon cucumbers.. They’re so prolific and people are so curios about them.
It’s almost impossible to pick a top favorite, there are so many wonderful varieties. However I would have to say Orangelo Watermelon is in my top 5, and I am trying Winter Luxury Pie Pumpkin for the first time this year.
mammoth melting sugar snow peas……a little bit of heaven!!!
Looking forward to tasting the Thai Light Green Round Eggplant. Most everything else I ordered is in the process of growing! Boy will my garden keep me busy this year! Everything at Baker Creek looks so tempting!

I love the Jimmy Nardello sweet Italian pepper, we stuff them with cheese and herbs and grill or broil them for an easy delicious appetizer.
Green zebra tomatoes are the best! “Love lies bleeding” amaranth adds beauty to the garden and the tangelo watermelon is a beauty.
