Best home and garden deals during Amazon Prime Big Deal Days

Disclosure: If you shop from my article or make a purchase through one of my links, I may receive commissions on some of the products I recommend.

Amazon Prime Big Deal Days are back. It’s like Black Friday—only better—and it’s happening this year on October 8 and October 9, 2024.

This is a good time to take inventory of your home and garden gear and think about what needs replacing (as well as what you’ve had your eye on) because hundreds of thousands of items will be offered at discounted prices. Not to mention the holidays are glimmering around the corner and you can get a head start on your gift buying too!

I’m a Prime member (you have to be to get these deals) and I’ve been shopping Amazon Prime Days for years, scooping up all sorts of sales for things I’ve been saving up for. Nearly half my tool shed came from various Prime Days, and my husband likes to joke that I rarely ever buy anything full price. (It’s kind of true though.)

How to shop the sale

Amazon Prime Big Deal Days starts on Tuesday, October 8 at 12:01 am and ends on Wednesday, October 9 at 11:59 pm.

To take advantage of Amazon Prime Big Deal Days, you must be a Prime member. You can sign up here for a free 30-day trial.

It’s worth the cost if you decide to keep your membership. My husband and I share a Prime membership and use it for free two-day shipping, Try Before You Buy (a lifesaver for busy families with growing kids), Prime Video, Amazon Music, Amazon Photos (unlimited photo storage), and GrubHub+ (free food delivery from local restaurants). There are other benefits too (like discounted prescriptions, Prime Reading, and Prime Gaming) that we don’t use.

Prime members also get exclusive discounts outside of Prime Days, so even if you don’t shop this week, you’ll have year-round access to special prices on lots of different items (which isn’t made clear as a perk, but I’ve seen this firsthand when I browse Amazon without being logged in to my account).

Because I’m a longtime Amazon partner (meaning I earn commissions from qualifying purchases through the links in this post), I also have the honor of giving away two $500 Amazon.com gift cards to two lucky Garden Betty followers! Keep reading to the end to find out how to enter for your chance to win.

Prime Day deals I’m loving

I’ve been scoping some early deals and deal previews and put together this list of my favorite finds. Some are items I personally own and love, and some are items I’ve added to my shopping cart. I’ll update my list throughout Prime Big Deal Days as I find new deals worth sharing!

Electric Leaf Mulcher – I’ve used this mulcher from Worx for several years, shredding hundreds of bags of leaves, and it’s still going strong. It’s easy to operate and helps you turn piles of leaves into free mulch and compost. (I pair it with this leaf waste bin, which fits perfectly under the mulcher.)

Garden Scissors – Scissors are my most-used gardening tool, and this rust-resistant pair from Barebones is super sharp, sturdy, and attractive with its walnut handles.

Automatic retractable garden hose reel – This is an interesting find because it’s not an official Prime Day deal, but Hoselink is currently offering a 10% discount on the charcoal-colored retractable hose. (They don’t even have this deal on their own site!) I have this same hose and love how tidy it keeps the yard!

Folding Work Table – My husband has used this workbench for years and it’s an essential part of his garage gear. If you do lots of house projects, you’ll appreciate how sturdy, versatile, and convenient it is. You can even turn it into a sawhorse that supports 1,000 pounds!

Hydro Flask Water Bottles and Tumblers – I have an embarassing number of Hydro Flasks at home, but I can’t help it, they’re the best. (Not to mention they’re headquartered in my home of Bend, Oregon.) Only certain colors are on sale, so click that link to see all of them!

Soil Block Maker – Trusty gardening brand Fiskars has entered the soil-blocking game and I’m intrigued with their version of the tool, which can make up to four blocks at a time.

Coco Coir Bricks – If you make your own seed starting mix and potting soil, here’s a deal on compressed coco coir bricks (which you can use in place of peat moss).

Fabric Grow Bags with Handles – Vivosun has deals across all their sizes, from 1 gallon to 30 gallons! I recommend the larger sizes (20 gallons and up) for growing tomatoes and squash, and the smaller ones for salad greens and herbs.

Organic Worm Castings – This is a great deal for two 30-pound bags of mineral-rich worm castings. I like to spread a few handfuls over my garden bed before planting.

Worm Factory 360 Composting System – If you want to make your own worm castings, this is the easiest way to do so. I used this vermicomposting bin back in Southern California and found it really efficient. (The only reason I don’t use it now is because I’m in Central Oregon, where the worms would freeze over winter.)

Midweight Frost Cloth – Stock up on a few of these to cover your plants over fall and winter. You can easily keep leafy greens alive through spring this way!

Rachio Smart Sprinkler Controller – Automated watering frees up so much time in the garden, and I like this controller for its Weather Intelligence technology. It automatically adjusts the watering schedule with its rain skip, wind skip, and freeze skip features.

Extendable Tree Pruner and Pole Saw – This tool reaches super high and is easy to maneuver for trimming small tree branches. We use it on our two-story-tall willow tree.

Micro-Tip Pruning Clippers – These versatile snips can be used for pruning, harvesting, and cutting twine or opening bags. I bought a set for my own garden and donated one to my kids’ school garden.

Bypass Pruners – You cannot go wrong with a pair of Corona clippers. This one is burly enough to cut 1-inch stems and branches while still being lightweight.

Nisaku Hori Hori Weeding and Digging Knife – I keep a few pairs of hori hori knives around my yard, shed, and garage because they’re so useful!

EGO Power+ Cordless Leaf Blower – My husband just added this leaf blower to his ever-growing EGO power tool collection and it’s a must for fall cleanup in the yard.

EGO Power+ Cordless Chainsaw – We’ve owned this for several years and it’s impressive! Very powerful and we don’t miss having a gas chainsaw at all.

EGO Power+ Snow Blower – We use this electric snow blower on a 300-foot-long gravel driveway and it’s so quiet and clean!

Sun Joe Electric High Pressure Washer – Every household needs a good pressure washer! We use ours for lots of tasks, from washing the car to spraying down our porch.

ThermoPro Digital Hygrometer – I’ve been using this inexpensive (yet reliable) hygrometer for years and have one in the chicken coop (to ensure our flock doesn’t get frostbite), inside our house (to maintain proper humidity for tropical houseplants), and out in the garage (to monitor temps for plants we’re overwintering or produce we’re storing).

Gorilla Cart Steel Utility Cart – I’m obsessed with these garden carts! They can haul potted plants, bags of potting soil, tools, buckets, and on big harvest days I just load them up with veggies to wheel back into the house.

Gorilla Cart Foldable Beach Wagon – We bring this on camping trips and day trips where we need to haul coolers, towels, grills, and other fun gear.

EF EcoFlow Portable Power Station – Every household needs a generator for emergencies. This electric one has 15 outlets to power all your household devices so you’re prepared in the event of a blackout. If you need to run a fridge, A/C unit, garage door opener, and small electronics, you might need a heftier generator like this one. (All of the EcoFlow models are on sale though!)

Liquid Fence Deer Repellent – Don’t lose any of your shrubs or trees to deer next year! This is an effective repellent if you can’t use physical barriers.

FoodSaver Vacuum Sealer Machine – For years I’ve wanted a vacuum sealer to help my food (especially vegetables from the garden) stay fresher in the fridge and freezer. This deal might be the nudge I needed to finally get one!

Quick Tip

If you’re like me, you probably have tons of items in your “Save for Later” cart or Amazon wish list. Scan through those and see if any of them are Prime Day Deals today!

More home and electronics deals I’m liking

Apple AirTag – The 4-pack is on sale for less than the Apple site! I just picked up a few of these for tracking luggage, keys, and other important things. (Tried-and-true parent tip: Stick AirTags on all your TV remotes!) You can find a lot of accessories for attaching them to different items, like this low-profile adhesive mount, secure strap mount, hidden bike mount, hidden fork mount for mountain bikes, or heavy-duty magnetic mount.

Logitech Vertical Mouse – I’ve been using this vertical mouse for over a year to help with wrist strain. It took a couple of weeks to get used to the new natural hand positioning, but it’s really made a difference in how my hand and arm feels after a long day on the computer.

iRobot Roomba – We have this robot vac (which we named Dustin Bieber 😂) and run it nearly every day. The self-emptying feature is key and makes it sooo much better than previous robot vacs we’ve had.

iRobot Braava Jet – I was skeptical of using a robot mop (would it really get the floors clean?), but we’ve had ours for a year now and yes, it does get the floors clean, even with two messy kids who love to craft and eat saucy foods.

Bissell Little Green Carpet and Upholstery Cleaner – We put white carpet in our new house (are we gluttons for punishment or what?!) and this upholstery cleaner works like magic on dirty footprints and stains. Read the reviews on the Little Green; they’re impressive! (There’s also a pet version.)

Shark Rocket Cordless Stick Vacuum – I have this exact model and cannot live without it! It runs for almost 40 minutes on a single charge and sucks up dust, debris, and even beads, pieces of string, and googley eyes in my kids’ rooms. The hand vac feature is incredibly convenient too.

Zojirushi Water Boiler – If you love making hot tea or French press coffee, a water boiler and warmer is essential—definitely one of those appliances I didn’t know I needed until I got one! This tidy unit takes up little counter space and dispenses instant hot water with the tap of a button. What makes it different from an electric tea kettle is that it actually keeps the water hot, so you don’t have to wait for water to boil up again.

Zojirushi Rice Cooker and Warmer – Do you like rice as much as I do? Take it from me—as someone who grew up on rice in a long line of Asian rice enthusiasts—you cannot go wrong with Zojirushi if you want the best and fluffiest white rice.

Ninja Air Fryer – I had this and loved it until I upgraded to a Ninja Foodi so I could have more cooking functions.

Panasonic Infrared Toaster Oven – This is a simple countertop oven that I’ve had for nearly 10 years. It’s perfect for toasting and reheating leftovers when I don’t want to fire up the big oven.

KitchenAid Artisan Series Stand Mixer – Prime Day is a great time to scope out deals on stand mixers. Mine lives on my counter for making pizza dough for our family’s Friday night pizza parties.

KitchenAid Pasta Cutter Attachment – I’ve had a stand mixer for a while and always wanted a pasta cutter to speed up the process of making fresh pasta. This attachment set is finally on sale!

Pyrex Measuring Cup Set – Every kitchen needs a set of glass measuring cups, and these are the same ones I’ve been using for 20 years.

Nordic Ware Baking Sheets – I have these in every size! They’re a workhorse in the kitchen and Nordic Ware is the only brand that never warps in the oven.

Ooni Karu Outdoor Pizza Oven – I’m a fan of outdoor cooking (if you couldn’t tell from my cookbooks) and Ooni makes it so easy to crank out homemade wood-fired pizza. I like how this dual-fuel version gives you the option of using wood, charcoal, or gas.

Etekcity Infrared Thermometer – If you decide to get a pizza oven, you’ll need a thermometer like this one to make sure your oven is up to temp. This is the exact model I have and it works flawlessly.

Crock Pot Cook & Carry Slow Cooker – This one’s in my cart! My favorite feature is the locking lid. It’s perfect if you’re making a dish to bring to a potluck or holiday party.

Bamboo Sheets – My favorite bedding brand has their bamboo lyocell sheets on sale right now. This is what I currently have on my bed and the silky soft sateen weave feels so luxurious! They’re the best sheets I’ve ever used, which is saying a lot since I’ve gone through several sets of linen, Egyptian cotton, and hemp bedding. The same sheet set I bought three years ago still looks great, even with weekly washing.

Superfood Facial Cleanser – While this isn’t home- or garden-related, I couldn’t not share my favorite face cleanser. This one is full of antioxidants and the formula is very soothing and gentle, containing kale, spinach, and green tea.

  1. Well we moved recently and where at the old place I was limited to a pair of 4′ X 10′ X 2′ raised beds now we have a quarter acre and I have a lot of work to do. I was planting fruit trees before the 100 degree days hit. When finished we will have 20+ fruit, citrus, and avocados. I will build 6 to 8 raised beds this time. If we win a gift card I will buy a little greenhouse for my wife and a heavy duty garden wagon. Thank you for doing this drawing. You always do cool stuff! I’ll be sending you some rare and different pepper and chile seeds soon. BTW, I just ordered the Hori Hori you recommended. I want more than 1 also.

  2. Hi Linda, thanks for all the great ideas. Hard to pixk. If I won the gift card I would love to get a food savor Vacuum Machine. Any left over would goto get a kitchen aid artisan series stand mixer and the Nordic Wars baking pans. Thank you for doing this.

    Thanks for holding the giveaway!

  4. Hi Linda, I really enjoy and save all the emails you have sent out. Thanks for all the great info in them. The prospect of winning is exciting, and if I did win, my husband really needs a new string trimmer! It would save my hearing all the loud, angry words that the old one causes! New replacement bird feeders that have way too many holes from bear teeth trying to get at the seed would be nice, clean and intact too. And a replacement small cold frame with a heating cable for my seedlings started on our cold early spring days here in NW New Jersey, the last one has last me for over 30 years. These are the things that came first to my mind anyway,

  5. I would definitely get some frost blankets for my raised bed. Just want to say thanks for all you do-you have helped me in my garden immensely. I initially signed up for a bunch of gardening blogs-but yours has been the only one that I have stayed subscribed to and consistently gives me great info.

  6. A truck load of Sluggo cause my home is overrun with slugs and their buddies! Hahaa!

  7. Great ideas for Amazon Prime Day! If I won a $500 Amazon Gift Card I would update the tools in my greenhouse to include a Gorilla Cart, heavy duty seed starting trays, soil blockers, seed dropper and new pruners. If there was anything left over I’d invest in a pressure canner and supplies.

  8. If I won the gift card, I would love to buy a composting system! Outside of gardening items, I would spoil my daughter on her first Christmas. I struggled through 6 years of infertility and IVF, and she’s my miracle baby <3

  9. There are some really cool items on your list. If I won a gift card I’d have a hard time deciding. My two top runners are the gorilla cart and the Kitchenaid mixer. Thanks for your blog and for the chance to win.

  13. what would I buy with $500 Amazon GC? mmm maybe something for myself, for my kids, for the house…. it’s hard to decide. I probably won’t feel guilty buying something that’ll make me happy… really would love to save up for a greenhouse. but a soil block maker and the ingredients would be lovely 😍

  14. Hi Bettylin,
(thought that up all by myself)
I have been reading and following your advice for several seasons now and i am always interested to see what new thing (for me) that you have to share.
if i won the card i would start off with:
    -ooni karoo pizza oven
    – crock pot cook and carry
    -your latest cookbook
    -Kitchen Aid stand mixer
    -Ninja Air fryer
    -Zojrushi Water boiler
    -Zojrushi rice cooker
I think that would spent it all up!
    Thx david

  15. Thank you for your Garden Betty blog, Mrs. Linda. I may not comment or even click like or whatever to let you know I even see it. However, I would like to take this opportunity to tell you now just how informative and uplifting I find your experiences and tips for cutting down on time and tasks in my fledgling garden. Thank you.
My mother has been wanting a crackpot for ages, and your preview list and comments have made that one you talked about go to the top of my list of what to buy during Prime Days. I also might just add the cutters for myself if I won one of your giveaway gift cards. The cheap ones I’ve bought in the past haven’t even lasted n entire season so purchasing a really good pair would be wonderful for me. Thanks again.

  16. I’d love to buy something fun, but we really need to do some painting – so probably a paint gun!

  17. I can always find the organic plant food staples I need on amazon and would use the gift card to keep my supply updated .

  18. Thanks for all your tips. What a great source you provide for us hobby-gardeners. My dream purchases would be the vacuum sealer and Gorilla Cart.

When you get around to it…a sure fire way to fight off aphids would be very helpful. Those little buggers take over my broccoli and kale every year.
    Thanks LL.

    MG

  19. Sorry, I don’t do Instagram. BUt I would love to buy the OOni Pizza oven! And I did get the soil blocker, the corona pruners and the micro tip pruners. THank you for finding the good garden stuff and highlighting it so I didn’t have to dig through all the Amazon website!

  20. Love your site! If I won a $500 gift card, I would buy the sprinkler controller that’s on your list, plus more hose. I’m still building gardens on a newer property, and watering is a real chore.

  21. I would definitely buy the solar-powered generator! We lose power at least once a winter and that would be such an asset to our family!

  22. Hi Garden Betty!

I would love to buy a weather station for our property. We are in a microclimate, and this would help me pinpoint better how to care for my expanding food forest 😀

  23. I would definitely love to restock my supply of tile locators! They are lifesavers for finding lost car keys, my favorite water bottle, my husband’s work badge, wandering goats 🐐😂 etc.

  24. I would love to get the Zojirushi Water Boiler for the kitchen and the Soil Block Maker for the garden! There are so many medicinal plants I grew and foraged this year that I’ll enjoy this winter as tea, and so many more new varieties of seeds I’ll be planting out next spring.

  25. I have recently retired and moved, and instead of downgrading I have a half acre of garden to play with. I found your blog and immediately signed up to receive emails. they’ve given me so many tips that I use or save for future use. I’ve been a big help in my new adventure. Thank you.

  26. The soil block maker will save so much time and keep me from using plastics. Great item! Love your blog and all of your tips! I come back to you over and over again.

  27. Love Prime Days! Thanks for the great suggestions. If I won, I would buy a fountain for my yard. I am trying to get my yard certified as a wildlife habitat. A wall-mounted fountain for my shed would look beautiful and be a treat for the wildlife.

  28. Welcoming our first wee one in, supposedly, seven days, and I’d love a little greenhouse to introduce gardening straight away in Spring!

  29. Thank you Linda! I think there are several things I would consider buying, possibly the Eco Flo, maybe a chain saw.

  30. Great article! Very helpful to have recommendations for products you have been using long enough to know how well they work.

  31. Just daydreaming of what treasures a $500 gift card could obtain is bringing me to my happy place! The Roomba, the coconut coir bricks, so many things on your list call. Whoever gets picked, it’s fun to think about how happy they’ll be and how much use they’ll get from their surprise gift. Happy shopping everyone!
